In this dual-purpose Memorial Day service, I’ll honor and remember those who have served in any branch of the United States Armed Forces. And I’ll take up early in this election year, a noble tradition in the ministry that goes back to the 17th Century. That tradition is the offering of an “Election Day” sermon. One or two Sundays before an election, almost every preacher in the land devoted a sermon to the body politic. It’s a great literary genre. However, what I’ll lift up will be different from my other Election Day sermons.
For a while now, I’ve been thinking about what characteristics could be used to evaluate if a person is fit to be a leader, particularly someone who serves as President of the United States. I’ve come up with seven. Join me as I expound on them.
Special note: In relationship to remembering and honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, you will be invited to share in the chat box the name and branch of service that you’ve served in, family members are currently serving and other family members who have served (currently alive or passed on).
Interim Minister Rev. Jacqueline Ziegler is speaking. Josh Cogliati is the Worship Associate. Daniel Schwen and Drew White are the Audio/Visual Technicians. Jessica Kuipers is our pianist and vocalist.
