What Could the Easter Resurrection Theme Mean for Unitarian Universalists?

Of all the many religious dates we share with our Christian, Jewish, and Muslim neighbors throughout the year, it is without doubt this one — Easter Sunday — which gives Unitarian Universalists (UUs) the most theological and spiritual pause. When it comes to the complicated Christian narrative and the accompanying theological assertions of Easter Sunday, we gulp a bit and don’t quite know how to relate religiously. In particular, we have trouble with the Resurrection theme of Easter.  It’s not that we are dismissive or disdainful of the traditional Christian message — our faith has always shown respect for the various beliefs of others — but it’s more that we UUs find ourselves in a very different theological and spiritual place.  Join me as I offer what our different theological and spiritual thoughts are about the Resurrection.
