Autumn: It’s Awesome Either Way

Interim Minister Rev. Jacqueline Ziegler is speaking. Vic Allen is the Worship Associate. Jessica Kuipers is our musician.

More often than not, the first thing that comes to most people’s minds when you mention October is Halloween. But for some, autumn means more than that. For some, when you mention autumn the first thing that comes to their mind is that autumn is the time of subtler and muted colors in contrast to the vibrant lively colors of summer. It is a time for a drive in the country. For others, it is a reminder of the impermanence of everything. We have experienced the budding of life in spring and the flowerings and profusions of summer. Now the leaves fall and bare branches remind us of the fleeting nature of all things. Jewish rabbi and writer Harold Kushner in his book The Lord Is My Shepherd suggests that when we contemplate fall’s changes, we grow more appreciative of all the beauties that surround us. What meaning does autumn hold for you?
